What defines a good year?

Is it the friends you made? the friends you retained? getting into a relationship? staying in a relationship? how much money you made? how much satisfaction you got out of your job? were you happier for most of the year than you were sad? did you achieve your fitness goals? the car or house you bought?

It can be one or all of the above, everyone has different priorities and none of them are wrong. To me, it’s a little bit of everything.

Did I make friends? I don’t think I’ve ever networked as much as I have this year. I have made a tonne of new friends through the blogosphere and I have loved every opportunity this community has given me so looking through that perspective… yes, I had the most fantastic year to date.

Did I make heaps of money? Yes and no – let’s say it’s neutral lol but I’ve never classified success as making money.

Did I achieve my fitness goals? Yes! But I’m not going to pretend like I didn’t work hard for it.

Did you stay in a relationship? I did let somebody in my life that really rocked my world… in a good way, and in a very negative way. I hate to admit that I was with the wrong person for so long because at the time I would have rather been in an average relationship than be alone. The sadness of that relationship being over was hard to deal with but the growth in myself I had after was unparalleled. And the only way that I got out of that depressing, muddy hole was to climb my way out instead of staying down in the dumps waiting for the next average relationship to come along.

So instead of filling my broken heart with another average relationship (which was probably what led me to that one in the first place) I chose to be pro-active with making myself a whole person again. I reminded myself that happiness is a choice, and I chose to be a confident, entrepreneurial, adventurous girl I was and will continue to be. This lesson reminded me how important it is to have goals and the importance in seeing every shitty situation that comes your way as an opportunity to grow, learn and be better for it.

I hope you’re honest about how your year went too and go into the next one a strong, confident person with realistic goals, free of people holding you back and surrounding yourself with people who will lift you up. Corny but kinda srz. I love you and I wish you the best.

After having the most mentally draining week with back to back events and meetings after work I have come to realise why I ever started blogging – because I love it. I love sharing with people what I’m wearing, sharing my love for style, creating a shoot by putting together a look and finding beautiful locations to suit, and I love meeting likeminded people. Tonight I caught up with a few girls that reminded me of this after I might have gotten a little bit slack on the blogging end of things.

A few days ago Jock and I drove out to the beach after work and caught the sunset (on the east coast, mind you) and free people danced ourselves along my fave little beach tucked away between two of Sydney’s busiest beaches and just enjoyed our time away from the city and away from our daily grind.

I think taking time to enjoy your life and realising why you do what you do, realise what you’re passionate about is going to really ice the cake on your day, your week, your month and your overall mood. Easier said than done but when you’re doing what you love it makes all the difference. So go get ‘em.

I love going to the spa and getting pampered as much as the next girly girl but let’s face the reality of it… we don’t all have the time nor the means or money to get a fortnightly mani & pedi, make up done every time we have an event or a facial every few months so that’s why I love trying new at home products that are just as good as the spa. Especially when they’re natural and organic like this Detoxifying Facial Mask. I love how you can actually feel the clay detoxing your skin as it dries. Soo relaxing.

Deep Spring

We shot this a couple weeks ago when the weather was still scorching and I was sweating in my outfits, nek minit the winter clouds come in and I’ve got my chunky knits and high socks on (today’s insta post). No complaints, I’m embracing the cold because I’ve bought myself some epic coats I’m yet to bust out.

Needless to say I’ll be missing lazy days on the rocks like these where I don’t have to wear pants. In this look I am wearing Talulah one-piece, and sportsgirl hat. Minimal. Haha.

This bikini is great for tanning, layering or styling with denim cut offs. Maybe not swimming though… oh the irony.

New Year

Jessie 18.12-38 jessiekhoo-fashionandsounds-sunseeker-floral jessiekhoo-fashionandsounds-sunseeker-floral jessiekhoo-fashionandsounds-sunseeker-floral jessiekhoo-fashionandsounds-sunseeker-floral jessiekhoo-fashionandsounds-sunseeker-floral It’s the first of January 2014 & I am so happy and I am also so confused at the same time as to where the last year went. I think the best thing that I did was started this blog, I’m proud that I got something off the ground that I was passionate about, believed in and could say this was my own creation. So thank you to all of my amazing readers who make this little fashion blog worth it.

I thought I’d celebrate in true style with a little summer bikini outfit because… I love Summer and I love bikinis. One piece suits are not just for the yummy mummies in this world anymore, they’re farshun and they’re totally rocking the season, don’t be afraid to go there. A simple white shirt also always makes you look effortless. In this outfit I’m wearing Elliatt shirt & Sunseeker one piece swimsuit.

Saving Daylight

I feel like I’ve come out of hibernation, even though we didn’t even have a real winter.

To celebrate the extra hours of light this year I took out my new floral and lace MINKPINK bikini with matching shorts, so cute! sunnies also from MINKPINK.

Playsuits & Parades

I guarantee you’ll find your runners, locals, euro tourists, euro local tourists (these are the ones which consider themselves locals because they’ve lived there for 6 months and hadn’t heard of any other suburb to live in), the token group of asians decked out in pants and jackets in 30 degree weather, camera in hand, standing by the shore, running away from the water & taking group selfies. Bless. And then there’s me, a girl from the burbs livin’ in the city just tryin’ a have a good time with her friends. Taking selfies in my fave new romper.

What I love about this playsuit is the drapeyness and the swingyness, so bring on the wind! I wore this MINKPINK playsuit & sunnies with my Fitz Buckle Sandals by Spurr. Keepin’ it comfy. Keepin’ it real.

Cat Attack

He’s one of the most chillest cats you’ll ever meet (hence the ragdoll) I designed this DEAL WITH IT cat tee with this little guy in mind. Whether or not you get the reference from the deal with it memes, I hope you like it! The daisy shorts were inspired by my love of spring and all things daisies (so much more daisy stuff to come!)

Wearing Talula denim jacket from Aritzia, 1&20 Blackbirds Deal with it cat tee, Daisy runner shorts I also designed & leopard creepers from Hype DC.
