I didn’t think I’d get as much wear out of this coat as I have (see my first look here) so I thought it’d be fitting to add another post to the collection. I swapped out the shirt and crop layering with a long line scallop front tank from Cameo over a pair of tight, distressed boyfriend jeans, add a scarf and then BAM, it’s a winter look.
I’m throughly enjoying winter so far. I’m loving bed socks, vege soups and movie nights. Who else is with me?
I may have been abusing plaids and tartans a little bit too much in my outfits (here and here in the last 3 weeks)… but I’m seeing them more as staples prints like polka dots, stripes or leopard print. They’re a sexy blend of ye olde gaelic times and 90s grunge. And we all know I’m impartial to a little bit of William Wallace and Kurt Cobain.
It may come as no surprise that I only studied general English in high school – I was never a good writer. My stomach sank at the words ‘explain’ or ‘discuss’. I always tried to fluke my way through by watching the movie (thank you Leo & Claire for Romeo & Juliet) and if I ever actually finished the book I’d pat myself on the back and allow myself a few weeks of procrastination, granted that only happened about once, twice max. But what can you expect from a visual communicator, a creative who doesn’t express themself with words as much as photography, art or textiles? So please forgive me with the odd post of ‘writers block’ of disinteresting copy to read. The only thing I have to offer you is the truth that I’m not fake, I’m not pretending to tell you my farshun blogger life is all that, that I have the most fun all the time, because I don’t. I don’t always like writing, but I don’t like bloggers who don’t write at all, how are your readers ever suppose to relate or get to know your personality or who you are? Ultimately, I do this for you (who is pretty much only my mum).
It’s the last week of summer here in Sydney, sad news for me as I’m a huge water baby. I’m addicted to the salt water of the ocean, and as annoying as sand is in my hair, in the car, in my bikini, in my beach bag and eyeballs is, I keep going back. In efforts to adapt to the cooler climate I’m slowly transitioning my mind into warmer clothes, like wearing a skivvy crop top with a jersey midi skirt. Baby steps.
I’ve been entertaining a lot of plaid lately, could be because I designed this dress but maybe I designed this dress because I still am in love with the 90s, the flanno trend and all things TLC and Silverchair. I still remember taking a trip down to Canberra to see the Vivienne Westwood PUNK exhibition – that lady really turned fashion for Britain in the 70′s, a totally underrated star of this generation.
This dress is an easy summer throw on or winter staple if you just add some stockings, thigh high boots and a leather jacket – you’d be the raddest, baddest street styler.
Sunnies from MinkPink, denim jacket by Talula from Aritzia, boots from Wittner, Bag by Atmos&here from The Iconic, Dress by 1&20 Blackbirds from The iconic, Watch from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
I designed this SUPER-CALI-SEXILICIOUS-SLAMMIN-HOLLA-DOPENESS tee because I cannot get enough of lolzy tees right now. I get that it’s not really everybody’s cup of tea, but I believe that what you wear gives anyone a first impression of who you are, what you’re about & a glimpse into your personality. So perhaps it isn’t within your corporate image or high end fashion blogger scene to be screaming these words to people with your clothes, but if you think it’s fun or funny then why not, eh?
With this look I am channelling my inner 90s with top buns & flanno love with Long Haul Plaid Shirt & Super Cali tee I designed for 1&20 Blackbirds pairing it back with Wrangler’s washed black denim cut offs, MINKPINK sunnies, urge booties & go-to MiuMiu top handle.
I really have no idea what I was thinking when we shot this… I guess we were just trying new things and having fun haha… in hindsight I feel ridiculous but here you go anyway.
I wouldn’t say I’m either here nor there will a ‘style’. Some days I’m preppy, the next grunge then the next I’ll be boho or casual. I think that’s what fun about fashion, experimenting with different looks & mixing them together. This style is a mix of 90s grunge style, chunky leather boots and flannos contrasted against this cage sleeve knitted bodycon dress I designed for 1&20 Blackbirds. Take a look into the origins of this outfit to see how it was created.
I always find it hard to wear skivvies in Australia – it’s not particularly a normal look as it’s never that cold, so how am I to incorporate this trend without looking like a toddler? I’ve gone and mixed it with camo prints, army greens, leather & studs. This look today is made up of my MINKPINK ‘Anarchy’ high neck tartan print crop top from Surfstitch, leather look Romwe skirt, vintage belt, studded sleeveless anorak inspired vest I designed with hints of camo print, beanie by Agent Ninetynine from General Pants, leather boots from Wittner and studded bag by 1&20 Blackbirds from The Iconic.
