Hey all, just checking in from Texas! I’m not sure how I got this idea in my head that everyone in Texas is a cowboy that wears flannels, boots and hats, that every building would be a barn and there would just be tumble weed everywhere… but I did. And well, just like any other established city in the United States it’s full of high risers, Walmarts, Denny’s and department stores. I don’t want to say I’ve been ‘let down’ but someone really should have warned me.
At least the weather is warmer than the snow in Oregon!
This look is a dress is disguise – a top and shorts to be precise… oh the magic of separates. I have worn this top with so much else, denim shorts, pants, skirts and the outfit looks completely different every time. The waist tie doesn’t even have to always go around the front. So invest in your separates to stretch out your wardrobe, ladies!
Today playing with black, white fringe textures and injecting a puff of blue. I feel like this bag is very Chiara and suits a certain mood. I originally had a black bag planned (story of my life) but sometimes you don’t wanna be so predictable so let’s all just enjoy ourselves and not take our OOTDs so seriously. Have fun, eh! Loving the Houndstooth inspired top from Donya Vogue as well.
I am so into over the knee (OTK) boots over skinny jeans. I like how subtle yet sexy it is. Heeled boots are (generally) so comfy, this is why I wear them every day – however OTK can look a little OTT so dressing them down with jeans is an easier everyday option instead of showing off upper thigh with a mini skirt, especially in winter. I’ve teamed my jeans/ boots number with chambray from Dricoper and a fringe bag from Solsana to make it all a little more casual and ‘everyday’.
It’s been a big few days at Fashion Week! This look is from yesterday wearing and embroidered organza skirt and bomber jacket layered over wide mesh – a fantastic take on sports luxe. I’ve put it together with my fave default heels (I promise you they’re comfy I didn’t get sore feet all day!) and a perfect grey coat with turtle neck tank. I love mixing textures and colour tones and I had alot of fun putting this together.
After having the most mentally draining week with back to back events and meetings after work I have come to realise why I ever started blogging – because I love it. I love sharing with people what I’m wearing, sharing my love for style, creating a shoot by putting together a look and finding beautiful locations to suit, and I love meeting likeminded people. Tonight I caught up with a few girls that reminded me of this after I might have gotten a little bit slack on the blogging end of things.
A few days ago Jock and I drove out to the beach after work and caught the sunset (on the east coast, mind you) and free people danced ourselves along my fave little beach tucked away between two of Sydney’s busiest beaches and just enjoyed our time away from the city and away from our daily grind.
I think taking time to enjoy your life and realising why you do what you do, realise what you’re passionate about is going to really ice the cake on your day, your week, your month and your overall mood. Easier said than done but when you’re doing what you love it makes all the difference. So go get ‘em.
Ok, some outfits are a little more experimental than others I’ll admit. I designed these lace flares because I felt maybe they’d come in handy or look fun for a boho look, but then I went completely left of center and paired it with a black bustier, fedora and black leather booties? Even looking back I’m confused but I still think it’s fun. What even is the point in life if you feel compelled to stick to the social norms of dressing, or wearing what every other blogger or person is wearing.
Today and everyday until it’s Christmas day I’m going to be freaking out about Christmas. I love Christmas but I am not a gifty person whatsoever, I blame my parents. My mum’s the type that would buy herself a present way before Christmas and just ask for money. I don’t let my dad buy me presents without me specifically tell him what it is to be, and even then it always comes in the form of cash, joint with my mum. Not to say that my family isn’t above board in the love each other department, I’m just saying, I was never conditioned to love giving or getting presents. This can also do with the fact that I hate surprises. I can’t act, I hate pretending that I love the present that I don’t like. And if you’re buying me a present you’re close enough to me for me to say I don’t actually like or need it. So it’s awkward for everyone.
I’d rather spend my days out of the shopping centres or not shopping online and in the sun like I am here in my Keepsake shorts & Kim Kardashian knit tank, (in one of my previous posts I might have gone OTT for my love of KK and this is the closest I can get to the megababe) I like the knit tank because I love texture in outfits mixed with prints.
Welcome to my ever dreamy world of flowers and lace, an ethereal land of dreams and perfect harmony. That’s a lie. A huge lie. The preconceived idea that bloggers don’t spend most of their day behind a computer editing, uploading, writing, organising their next shoot is amazing. The fact that viewers call bloggers ‘lucky’ to have this or that opportunity is beyond me. Call me a pessimist but I don’t believe in luck. Nothing you ever want in this world isn’t going to be given to you (unless you’re apart of the few via natural selection to indeed, literally, have things given to you) and you have to work to achieve your goals. This isn’t news to you though.
And I’m not angry, I’m just ranting. I am looking at this series of photos thinking ‘My God, I hope people don’t think I just walk around all day in lace and stilettos eating brunch and take photos of flowers”. I just don’t think I’d get any views if you saw me in my black tee, black jeans, black boots day after day.
In saying this – I do love this look, if I didn’t have to walk up a big hill to get to work I’d wear shoes like this more often. And if I didn’t have a fear in wearing the same dress more than a couple times I’d wear this Keepsake one everyday. I love white. I love white lace. There’s nothing sexier (unless it’s black lace).
In efforts to move out of my standard blog posts comfort zone Wes and I shot this last minute look on the rocks with no agenda but let’s try this lens and use the light in a completely different way for us. If you’re a blogger, photographer or artist I’d recommend you go out and change things up a little once in a while you may just surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.
