Feeling the Street

toyota toyota toyota toyota toyota toyota toyota toyota Camilla Under The Medina Moon Roundneck Kaftan

Last weekend I got the pleasure of jumping on board the Corroboree, a super yacht on Sydney’s Harbour to celebrate Toyota’s Feeling The Street Campaign. This campaign involves thousands of entrants all over the world who are performing on street corners and alleyways with a huge passion for music. I got the pleasure of meeting the winners of the competition and their joy for performing and making music was infectious.

What I love most is that the musicians were so global, they have come from India, Brazil, Italy, Chile and Colombia to create this band which worked so well together. Check out the youtube video and keep an eye out for the music video that was also filmed on the yacht! (Maybe you’ll be able to spot me!)

My blog is ‘Fashion and Sounds’ for a reason, I’ve always loved discovering new, young musical talent and with so many cultures included in this band I’m so honoured to be a part of the first steps of their journey and good luck to the team and thank you to Toyota for allowing me to be a part of this.

More Songs You Need To Hear

Hey all, from time to time I like to share with you what I’ve been listening to lately, what I’ve found that’s new (or old), what’s on repeat and why.

Grimes – REALiTi
Grimes had an amazing album in 2012 and completely scrapped her latest album because she thought it was too ‘depressing’ however this gem was released online and got a great reaction from fans and such so hopefully we can hear a whole album along this vein because it’s amazing.

Susanne Sundfor – Fade Away
My God this song gives me so many feels. If you’ve ever been with someone and just naturally drifted apart, yet always gravitating back to each other even though you know it isn’t right then this is so relatable. The idea of forcing a relationship to fade away is the saddest concept but often the most necessary.

George Maple – Talk Talk
I got to see this girl perform at a very intimate show for Rekorderlig and not only was her performance and voice hell strong but her presence and music was second to none. I hope to see more of this chick!

Death Cab For Cutie – Black Sun
Well well well my favourite band of all time is back and depressing as ever. Thank you Ben G for your divorce to bring us all heart wrenching songs to break up to <insert tear face emoji here>

Paramore – Hate To See Your Heart Break
This song isn’t new but this band has grown and evolved and I really commend that and their whole playlist has been on repeat for me. Hate to see your heart break is an emotive song about getting hurt and the reminder that hearts can heal in time.

United – Touch The Sky
To round this all off I’m sharing with you something that’s very close to my heart. “I found my life when I laid it down”. A constant reminder that this life isn’t all about just yourself and if you’re living for someone/ something more than yourself, you’ve got something worth living for. Too much of me me me gets exhausting and lonely.

Sounds I Recommend You Hear

New(ish) Kanye!! But I’m grateful he’s put track on spotify and a music video on youtube. I love this track because it takes me back to 808s & Heartbreak (a killer album you need to listen to if you haven’t). This track is written from the perspective of his late mother to him and dedicated to his daughter, Nori (of which has THE biggest swag of any toddler, ever). The video is directed by Her’s Spike Jones and is raw and real. I love the layers between his auto-tune and his actual vocals at about 2.00 with the fade back into the chorus. My god. I’m swooning.

If you listen to the lyrics of this song – you’ll immediate relate. If you’re a girl. Or a guy. Or a human whose fallen for someone who hasn’t quite reciprocated then yes the heart strings will be tugged like a Taylor Swift album right after a break up. But whatever, if you’re lucky enough to never be rejected then the bass, the falsetto and catchy clicks should have you shimmying your shoulders. Otherwise you are indeed, a robot.

World’s colliding!! My fave girl Taylor Swift with my other fave situation – sexy black guys with English accents and gorgeous deep raspy vocals. What a vibe. Not only is the situation a good thing but the arrangement is perfect from the brass to the electric drums and Labrinth kills it in every way.

Not an official video but this guy, Jarryd James, is fairly new on the Aussie scene and I have the feels he’s going somewhere.

Music Vibes

Just a few tunes I’m vibing…

The always amazing Haim – this music video is hilarious and OTT & I am down with that.

This KOL track brings me back to the Aha Shake Heartbreak album released almost 10 years ago now… they havn’t made anything like it since… Until now. I’m practically weeing my pants in anticipation to get my figurative hands on their new album.

Really digging the sounds of this totes trendy Aussie born artist that felt as though he needed to pack up and move to snow covered lands of Sweden to write music. Well, I’m glad he did because this song gives me a sense of euphoria, peace, sorrow and sadness all at once.

An oldie but a goodie – just an awesome tune and I like their collab with Urban Outfitters for the video.

I added this one because 1. It’s a good tune 2. It reminds me of this:

Market HQ x MBFF

What a knock out show!! To be honest I wasn’t expecting too much as I was at the GP show a few nights before and didn’t think much of it. However, MarketHQ fashion show was a nice surprise.

The show was great – they started with suffocating the whole room with graffiti live art spray painting the backdrop of ‘MarketHQ’ on clear perspex. After this, they they opened the show with 5 of Australia’s top bloggers, Steph Kramer from Watermelon Crush, Rochelle Fox, Morgan Joanel, Chloe Ting and Emma from Spin Dizzy Fall. What an inspiration! I guess this whole blogger-catwalk thing started with Gary Pepper – so thanks, girl!

MarketHQ’s trends were strong, wearable, understandable and easy to digest as well as having their take on styling that some other retailers probably couldn’t pull off.

In the middle they had this little dance routine to Rob Thick’s Blurred Lines – I added the video I look with my iphone, let me know what you think – I loved it – Just what GP didn’t have… backflips.

Sorry about the dodgey pics but I just used my iphone. (All the good ones aren’t mine)

I was wearing Mini Palms Flare Dress I designed for 1&20 Blackbirds, Zara leather jacket & sunnies, Wittner leather booties and Atmos&here duffle bag.
